How to Summarize a YouTube Video with AI: A Quick & Easy Guide

YouTube could be a great resource for practically anything.

With billions of YouTube videos available, it’s impossible not to resort to the platform when you need to learn something, or just get time to pass by.

But with so much content out there, not everyone has the time (or patience) to sit through a 20-minute video just to find out it wasn’t even what you needed. That’s why knowing how to summarize a YouTube video is starting to become must-have skill than just a nice trick.

And with the rise of AI, getting a quick YouTube video summary is now way easier than before. No more scrubbing through timestamps or guessing which part of the video actually matters.

In this blog, I’ll walk you through how to do it using Edcafe AI, a web-based platform that has a completely free (forever!) tool for generating a YouTube video summary.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Head to Edcafe AI and create your account

Before anything else, let’s get you inside.

Go to the Edcafe AI website and hit that Get Started Now button up top. You can sign up with your email, or save time by connecting your existing Google or Microsoft account. It’s quick, and totally free.

2. Open the Summary Note Tool

Once you’re in, click Create New on your dashboard.

You’ll see a few different tools pop up. Choose Summary Note. That’s the one made for generating quick takeaways from about any source, but in this case, we’re using it for a YouTube video summary. It’ll open up the editor where you’ll be dropping your video link in just a bit.

3. Link up the YouTube video

Now that you’re inside the Summary Note Generator, switch the input source to Webpage.

A URL field will pop up where you can paste the YouTube link you want summarized.

Here’s a neat bonus: there’s an Additional Instructions box where you can guide the AI on how you want your summary to sound. Want it short and bullet-pointed? Prefer a friendly tone? Looking for key takeaways only? Just type it in. Think of it as customizing your order before hitting go.

Once you’re happy with the setup, hit Generate.

4. Review your YouTube video summary

In just a few seconds, your YouTube video summary will appear right in the editor.

You can stop there, or take it a step further. If you want to tweak anything, you’ve got a built-in editor where you can revise, or reformat however you like. Add bold text, headings, or even insert links. It’s all editable and up to you.

5. Save and export your YouTube video summary

Once you’ve got the summary you need, you’re pretty much golden. But Edcafe AI lets you do more with it.

Everything you create with Edcafe AI can be saved in your personal library, a cloud-based hub that functions like your own Google Drive for all of your AI-generated content. You can organize your summaries into folders, so it’s easy to revisit, or tweak them later.

From your generated YouTube video summary page, you’ll also find options to share it with others or export it in different formats. Whether you need it in an editable Microsoft DOCX, or just a clean Google Docs copy, Edcafe AI makes it a one-click job.

Now that you know how to summarize a YouTube video…

Edcafe AI offers plenty more features for you to explore.

If you’re a teacher, you’ll especially appreciate how it covers almost everything you could need in the classroom.

More than a YouTube video summary, you can generate lesson plans, design slides, build quizzes, set up chatbots, and much more.

And not to mention, the functions you get for these features are endless. One standout is the Assign tool, which lets you send AI-powered teaching resources straight to your students’ devices. They can access everything anytime, anywhere, simply by scanning a QR code. It’s like magic for busy classrooms.
