Quiz Timer

Product update live since: 26 January 2026

Timed quizzes are a common part of classroom assessment, but they can also be a source of uncertainty for students. When time runs low, students often rush without clear signals, or lose track of how much time is actually left. Clear timing cues make a difference, not by rushing students, but by helping them pace their work and finish more confidently.

A new quiz timer is now available on the student side in Edcafe AI, designed to make timed quizzes clearer for students while keeping assessment rules consistent for teachers.

Clear Visual and Audio Time Signals

As students work through a quiz, the timer provides clear cues as time runs down.

When there is one minute remaining, the timer changes color to alert students visually. In the final 10 seconds, a ticking sound plays to signal that the quiz is about to end. These cues help students decide when to review answers or submit without needing reminders during the quiz.

Automatic Submission When Time Is Up

If a student does not submit the quiz before the timer ends, the quiz is submitted automatically.

On the teacher side, the submission is clearly indicated, making it easy to see that the quiz was submitted because time ran out. This keeps review and grading transparent, especially when comparing results across a class.

Redo for Practice Without Affecting Scores

After submitting a timed quiz, students can redo the quiz without a timer for additional practice or review.

Only the first submission score is recorded and shown to teachers. This allows students to continue learning from the quiz while keeping assessment records clear and consistent.

Shuffle Questions for Fairer Attempts

Quizzes can also be set to shuffle the order of questions for each student. This helps reduce answer sharing during live sessions while keeping the quiz content consistent across the class.

Why This Matters

Timed quizzes are not only about assessing content knowledge. They also reflect how students manage time and focus under pressure. Clear signals, predictable behavior, and small safeguards like question shuffling help make the experience more transparent and fair.

Students get clearer time guidance, while teachers keep full control over recorded results.
